Researchers in the University of California, Irvine (UCI) have conducted a statistical analysis which calls over 70,000 heart attacks, strokes and other adverse cardiovascular events can be prevented every year in the usa through using some highly purified fish oil treatment.
The REDUCE-IT trial revealed patients with known cardiovascular disease or diabetes and several risk factors that have raised triglyceride levels and therefore are at higher risk for ischemic events gained considerably from icosapent ethyl, a highly purified fish oil treatment, which reduced cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes, from 25 percent. Results weren’t found maybe with other acids like DHA, or dosages that are inadequate, according to Wong.
“Our investigation extends the findings from this REDUCE-IT trial by estimating its possible influence on the US population,” explained Wong. “By employing inclusion criteria and cardiovascular disease event rates in the REDUCE-IT trial and applying it to information on US adults from NHANES, we could gauge the favorable effect icosapent ethyl might have on preventing first and complete cardiovascular events in qualified US adults with cardiovascular disease or diabetes and several risk factors”
“When you believe that for each 21 patients treated with icosapent ethyl you are able to save a cardiovascular event, you start to see the consequences of the results,” explained Wong.
Icosapent ethyl is a purified secure eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) that was approved by the FDA together with maximally tolerated statin treatment to decrease the chance of cardiovascular events in certain adults with elevated triglyceride levels.
